Models of Discriminant Surfaces

چکیده
The illustration shown here appears in the master’s thesis of Mary Emily Sinclair (1878–1955). Her thesis, supervised by Oscar Bolza at the University of Chicago in 1903, deals with quintic polynomials p(t) = t + xt + yt + z. Every (real) triple (x, y, z) yields such a polynomial, and Sinclair describes the sets of all (x, y, z) such that the corresponding polynomial has a given number of real zeros. For this, one needs the set of all (x, y, z) such that p(t) has a multiple zero.

Prediction of unwanted pregnancies using logistic regression, probit regression and discriminant analysis
Background: Unwanted pregnancy not intended by at least one of the parents has undesirable consequences for the family and the society. In the present study, three classification models were used and compared to predict unwanted pregnancies in an urban population. Methods : In this cross-sectional study, 887 pregnant mothers referring to health centers in Khorramabad, Iran, in 2012 were ...
متن کاملComparison of Gestational Diabetes Prediction Between Logistic Regression, Discriminant Analysis, Decision Tree and Artificial Neural Network Models
Background and Objectives: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is the most common metabolic disorder in pregnancy. In case of early detection, some of its complications can be prevented. The aim of this study was to investigate early prediction of GDM by logistic regression (LR), discriminant analysis (DA), decision tree (DT) and perceptron artificial neural network (ANN) and to compare these m...
متن کاملReal Multiplication through Explicit Correspondences
We describe a method to compute equations for real multiplication on the divisors of genus two curves via algebraic correspondences. We implement our method for various examples drawn from the algebraic models for Hilbert modular surfaces computed by Elkies–Kumar. We also compute a correspondence over the universal family over the Hilbert modular surface of discriminant 5 and use our equations ...
متن کاملDiscriminant Analysis for ARMA Models Based on Divergency Criterion: A Frequency Domain Approach
The extension of classical analysis to time series data is the basic problem faced in many fields, such as engineering, economic and medicine. The main objective of discriminant time series analysis is to examine how far it is possible to distinguish between various groups. There are two situations to be considered in the linear time series models. Firstly when the main discriminatory informati...
متن کاملDiscriminant of certain K 3 surfaces
In this article, we study the discriminant of those K3 surfaces with invo-lution which were introduced and investigated by Matsumoto, Sasaki, and Yoshida. We extend several classical results on the discriminant of elliptic curves to the dis-criminant of Matsumoto-Sasaki-Yoshida's K3 surfaces.
متن کاملThe Challenges of the Detection of Subclinical Keratoconus at Its Earliest Stage
Undetected subclinical keratoconus (KC) is the main risk factor for iatrogenic ectasia. Many parameters have been proposed to help differentiate normal from subclinical KC corneas. Linear discriminant analysis is a technique that models the difference between different classes of data by looking for linear combinations of variables which best explain the data. The association of surfaces elevat...
